The Sega Dreamcast was released in 1998, the last in a long line of Sega home consoles. As a relative commercial failure that led Sega to go third-party software maker only, one might think that the Dreamcast was a failure as a whole. However, there are many great games on the system that were not only critical successes but are popular with fans to this day.
What are the most popular Dreamcast games? I’ve compiled data from YouTube, Google, and Facebook (likes of the game’s Wikipedia page) to get a sense of what Dreamcast games people are still talking about 20 years later. The verdict? No surprise that on a Sega console, you’ll see Sonic titles like Sonic Adventure near the top of the list. However, you’ll also Resident Evil 2 with a whole lot of likes. Are these the best Dreamcast games? That’s a stretch, as you’ll also find the dreadful Seaman near the top of the list. Sometimes people are simply talking about a game because it’s unique (or been profiled by AVGN).
